Is it too late to start, and am I eligible?

It is not too late to start. Following is an excerpt from a Medicare website providing useful information regarding the Medicare E-Prescribing Incentive requirements. Refer to the website below for complete information.

How To Get Started

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO START……

It's not too late to start participating in the 2010 Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program (eRx) and potentially qualify to receive a full-year incentive payment. This website section is designed to lead you step-by-step through the process of becoming one of the growing number of eligible professionals who are participating in the program. You may also wish to investigate participating in a separate program known as the Physician Quality Reporting System. For information on the Physician Quality Reporting System go to the "Related Links Inside CMS" section at the bottom of the web address shown above and click on the link titled Physician Quality Reporting System.

Eligible professionals may begin reporting the eRx measure at any time throughout the 2010 program year of January 1-December 31, 2010 to be incentive eligible. Once on the website above, click on the "Eligible Professionals" link on the left to see if you are an eligible professional. To successfully meet reporting criteria and be considered incentive eligible, individual eligible professionals must report the eRx measure at least 25 times (for eligible patient encounters) and the Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) allowed charges for services in the eRx measure's denominator should be comprised of 10% or more of the eligible professional's total 2010 estimated Medicare Part B PFS allowed charges.

What will I need to do?

You must report to Medicare, using a G-Code procedure either electronically or via paper, 25 records for patients whose prescription was sent electronically in 2010.

1 - To post the G-Code you will first need to add the code in Intellect in Utility --► Procedure --► Procedure --► Add, completing the <Charge Global> field with ZERO.

2 – Report the G-code G8553 (or numerator code) on the claim form that is submitted for the Medicare patient visit, and at least one of the qualifying procedure/encounter codes (denominator codes - shown below) through the Charges --► Charge screen.

90801, 90802, 90804, 90805, 90806, 90807, 90808, 90809, 90862, 92002, 92004, 92012, 92014, 96150, 96151, 96152, 99201, 99202, 99203, 99204, 99205, 99211, 99212, 99213, 99214, 99215, 99304, 99305, 99306, 99307, 99308, 99309, 99310, 99315, 99316, 99324, 99325, 99326, 99327, 99328, 99334, 99335, 99336, 99337, 99341, 99342, 99343, 99345, 99347, 99348, 99349, 99350, G0101, G0108, G0109

Post the patient encounter during the reporting period (January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010) where at least one prescription created during the encounter was generated and transmitted electronically. Refer to the following web site for more information on reporting:

https://www.cms.gov/ERxIncentive/Downloads/Claims-BasedReportingPrinciplesforeRx122209.pdf

3 - Submit the file electronically to Medicare, the same as you would your electronic billing OR you may print the encounter claim with G-Code to paper and send to Medicare.

NOTE: Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) charges for the codes in the denominator of the measure to make up at least 10 percent of the total Medicare Part B PFS allowed charges for 2010.
