ICD-9
Codes Linked to
ICD-10 Codes
Does
the ICD-10 code
change sound intimidating?
Prime Clinical
is making it easier.
Our upcoming software
release will include
an <ICD10 Effective
Date> field
on the Utility
--►Set
Up --►Parameter
screen where you
can enter the
date you want
to start using
ICD-10 codes instead
of ICD-9 codes.
After the entered
date, if a user
types in an ICD-9
code while posting
charges, Intellect
will display a
window with a
list of related ICD-10
codes and descriptions
from which to
choose. Simply
click
on the appropriate

AVG
Warning
Because
of recent complaints
from our clients
who have installed
AVG as their virus
protection, we
found this application
to be extremely
intrusive to Patient
Chart Manager.
AVG identifies
several PCM files
as virus threats
and subsequently
makes a false-positive
report, sometimes
resulting in a
lock-up or freezing
of the PCM application.
Therefore,
although AVG is
among the most
commonly used
anti-virus solutions
on the market
today, we highly
recommend the
removal of this
application. There
are several replacement
anti-virus applications
such as Symantec
Endpoint protection,
or a free application,
Microsoft Security
Essentials, which
are less intrusive
and have the option
to exclude specific
files, folders,
and file types.
Until
AVG develops an
exclusion list,
we ask all our
clients to please
immediately remove
or uninstall AVG
from your servers
and workstations.
For further assistance,
please consult
with your IT professional,
or contact Prime
Clinical Systems'
Hardware department.

What
to do Now in Preparation
for ICD-10 Implementation?
If
you have not already
done so, here
are the steps
you need to consider
to implement ICD-10:
•
Learn about
the structure,
organization,
and unique features
of ICD-10-CM -
all provider types
•
Learn about
the structure,
organization,
and unique features
of ICD-10-PCS
- inpatient hospital
claims
•
Learn about
system impact
and 5010
•
Use assessment
tools to identify
areas of strength/weakness
in medical terminology
and medical record
documentation
•
Review and
refresh knowledge
of medical terminology
as needed based
on the assessment
results
•
Provide
additional training
to refresh or
expand knowledge
in the biomedical
sciences (anatomy,
physiology, pathophysiology,
pharmacology and
medical terminology)
•
Plan to
provide intensive
coder training
approximately
6 - 9 months prior
to implementation
•
Allocating
16 hours of ICD-10-CM
training will
likely be adequate
for most coders,
and very proficient
ICD-9-CM coders
may not need that
much
Additional
Information
To
find additional
information about
ICD-10, visit

The next phase

New
Stage 2 Guidance
from HHS
on Care Transitions
The
Department of
Health and Human
Services has issued
[answers to] two
new frequently
asked questions
regarding the
Stage 2 meaningful
use measure for
transitions of
care.
The
measure is: "The
eligible professional
(EP), eligible
hospital, or critical
access hospital
(CAH) who transitions
their patient
to another setting
of care or provider
of care or refers
their patient
to another provider
of care should
provide summary
care record for
each transition
of care or referral."
QUESTION:
What certification
approaches would
satisfy the 2014
Edition transitions
of care certification
criteria adopted
at 45 CFR 170.314(b)(1)
and (b)(2) as
well as permit
an eligible provider
to have EHR technology
that meets the
Certified EHR
Technology (CEHRT)
definition? Please
emphasize how
the adopted transport
standards fit
in.
QUESTION:
For meaningful
use Stage 2's
transitions of
care and referrals
objective, in
what ways can
I meet the second
measure that requires
more than 10%
of the summary
care records I
provide for transitions
of care and referrals
to be electronically
transmitted?

Where
You Might Be Losing
Money at
Your Medical Practice
(Part 1)
These
are tough financial
times for medical
practices: Doctors
are serving a
greater number
of patients, but
at the same time
the amount insurance
actually reimburses
physicians for
medical care is
dropping. In addition
to rising expenses,
doctors also have
to deal with mountains
of paperwork and
must keep compliance
issues in mind
when they practice
medicine.
In the November
20, 2012, Physicians
Practice email,
David Doyle, the
chief executive
officer at CRT
Medical Systems,
addresses lack
of discipline
in collecting
patient receivables,
and missed charges.
