Prime Clinical Systems Unveils Software Developed with JAVA

(Pasadena, CA–February 23, 2004) – Get a glimpse of the future as Prime Clinical Systems, Inc., demonstrates two new versions of its medical software programs, both developed with the JAVA programming language, at the 2004 Annual Health Information Management Systems Society Conference & Exhibition, Feb. 22 to 26, in Orlando.”We’re taking a leadership position by becoming one of the first vendors to offer physicians the technology that will truly help them practice medicine more effectively,” says Barry Ardelan, President and CEO of Prime. “JAVA is an emerging and powerful technology that will bring many benefits to all of the physician group practices that use our medical software.”A programming language designed for use in the distributed computing environment, Java has the look and feel of the C++ language, is simple to use and can create complete applications that run on a single computer or applications among servers and clients in a network.

By developing both the OnSTAFF practice management system and the WebSTAFF billing and scheduling system in JAVA, Prime is offering unprecedented flexibility to physician practice users. The JAVA releases, expected to be available in the second quarter of 2004, offer users the ability to deploy the software on any platform including Unix, Linux, MacOS, MS-DOS and Windows and with any database including Oracle, SQL Server and Sybase. Current customers with software maintenance contracts will receive the updated software for free when it is released.

In addition to the flexibility, JAVA outperforms other programming languages by offering users increased reliability, security and protection from crashes.

“It is a superior programming language from a developer’s standpoint but it also brings numerous benefits to end users. Offering an open architecture—that is not dependent on any platform—just makes the software so much more flexible than programs written in other languages,” says Hamid Amjadi, Vice President Development/CIO. “Best of all, though, the new software programs will offer all of the same functions that were offered in the previous versions—and then some.”

For example, with the new software programs, users can:

  • Choose to use a graphical user interface (GUI) or keyboard entry for navigation.
  • Scan in any form and automatically populate it with patient data.
  • E-mail forms including claims forms such as ANSI 835 and ANSI 837 in PDF format.
  • Set up appointment scheduling rules, making it possible to automatically schedule patients for visits requiring the coordination of a team of professionals. For example, if for a certain procedure a patient needs to see a nurse for an EKG and then a doctor for an exam, the system will automatically offer only appointment times that will accommodate the needed services.

Prime will demonstrate its new software programs in booth 5455 at the HIMSS Conference.
